Ok, so earlier today I got the demo on the PS3. This game is interesting. The only map I've played is Wake Island. I don't know if that's the only map the demo has but it's the only one I played.
For starters this is defenitly a slim down version of battlefield. You only have 3 classes to choose from. Infantry, Rifleman and Scout.
The Infantry is your typical infantry carring a sub-machine gun which is good for close combat, grenades, rocket launcher and for some reason a wrench instead of a knife? Yeah I though the wrench was a little weird, maybe you can use it to repair I didn't get a chance to mess with it.
The rifleman is basically the same as infantry except it carries a bolt action rifle that is good for medium range instead of the machine gun. The rest of the kit seemed the same.
The scout is the sniper class and not surprisingly probably my favorite. It has a long range single shot sniper rifle. This game is like BF2 where the rifle doesn't move as you are aming it so sniping is made alot easier by that. You can also see a dot on your screen where the bullet went that allows you to adjust your aim for you second shot. Only down side is unless you shot them in the head it takes 2 shots to kill someone. Instead of carrying a wrench this one for the imperial army carried a samari sword. So, if you felt like chopping some peopel up there you go. Now you are probably wonder what can we do about tanks with a sword? Don't worry the scout class also carries satchel charges. Just throw a stachel charge near a tank and use the detenator and the tank is gone.
Tanks and other vechicles seemed to be in plenty supply and re-spawn quickly. Downside they seeemed easy to destroy. Using
a satchel charge on time I missed and it was like 10-20 feet from a tank and I went ahead and detinated just to get rid of it and the tank blew up! Plus side since vechicles are weak you can now actually use the ground anti-air guns to destroy planes. Yeah I know it's weird being able to use anti-air weapons to take out an aircraft in a battlefield game .
The map Wake Island is exactly the same as it was in Battlefield 1942 and when it was re-released for Battlefield 2. It just has some better graphics and a destructible environment. So, it wasn't anything real new since it had already been re-done for BF2. The maps are a good size and have plenty of room. The destructable environment is nice but not everything can be destroyed. For example buildings couldn't be destroyed. However watching trees get knocked down during a fight was interesting.
Now this isn't the realistic battlefield most are use to however, it provides a simple more stream lined game play. Good for beginners but I have some concern about replayability. There are ranks but I'm not sure what the point was I didn't see anything to indicate you could unlock anything.
Looks to be a fun game just needs some upgrading for the PC's. For example needs to allow more people, these maps are big so only having like 24 people makes it hard to find people to kill. Also, I hope they setup the controls better on the PC than they did on the PS3. Graphics weren't bad but nothing ground breaking either. Should be interesting to see what it looks like on the PC.
